My debut novel, The Algorithm Will See You Now, released to the world ten days ago! And I didn’t post about it on my blog until now!
Something I can now look back on and realize was mainly due to life happening and the world not standing still for my book launch (the audacity!), but specifically:
- Turning in my final manuscript of book two to my publisher just four days ahead of release date for Algorithm
- Sustaining a freak head injury at home three days before that, yet insisting to my husband I was fine and the only way he was taking me to the hospital was if I lost consciousness (I did not), and cranking out and finishing my revisions with an ice pack strapped to my head all weekend (note to readers: this method is not recommended)
- Keeping up with the day job
But, despite all that, and despite not posting about it here, The Algorithm Will See You Now, my book baby, launched! I don’t think I’ve had this many mixed feelings since dropping my oldest child off at preschool fifteen years ago and her nonchalant attitude (she might as well have said “Bye already, Mom, don’t let the door hit you on the way out”).
One of the things I’m learning as a new author is that it’s a lot of work to get your book into the hands of readers. Those who’ve written that it’s essentially like running your own small business weren’t joking.
To that end, I’ve done a few interviews so far, and have a “blog and podcast tour” planned for April (an introvert’s worst nightmare but I’m assured a necessary part of this book marketing thing). I also have a few excerpts from the book out on different sites.
Here’s a (possibly incomplete) list of everything out there so far from the first ten days:
- Q&A in the March Big Thrill magazine
- Author interview on The Mystery of Writing blog
- Author interview at Manybooks.net
- YouTube interview / podcast with Dr. Rajeev Kurapati
- Book excerpt on the Women In Medicine blog
- Book excerpt on KevinMD
And if you haven’t watched the killer book trailer my husband made for me (it turns out it’s handy as an author to be married to someone with a background in film), check it out here!
I’m so grateful and humbled by the reader reviews that have come in so far. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
If you haven’t yet added it on Goodreads, you can do that here.
It’s also $.99 on Kindle through 3/16/23.
If you’ve already read it, again, so many thanks from this mid-life debut writer — you’ve helped make a dream into reality. A humble request: I’m told leaving a review (or simply a star rating) on Amazon can go a long way in helping the book find its way to more readers! (Yes, I know the irony of needing to feed the Amazon algorithm in order to help discoverability of a book about where the algorithms might be taking us…)
