(A list in the satirical style of McSweeney’s Internet Tendency)
- Everyone around you has stopped believing something dangerous is out there because they can’t see it with the naked eye.
- You’ve seen people die from it, and your life will never be the same, but those who haven’t lost someone don’t see the big deal and want to “return to normal.”
- You’ve made it your mission to help all people anyway because it’s the right thing to do, but some people only hate you more for your dedication to your job.
- You watch some people decide to “learn to live with it,” only to die or, if they survive, become crippled.
- Many of your co-workers are burning out and giving up, or even joining the other side.
- Your leaders and politicians gaslight you when you show them the evidence that it’s not over.
- Some people mistake you for the evil you fight against and put the target on your back.
- Your world will never be the same, but others refuse to see it, clinging to the past as if that can stop what’s coming.
- Sometimes you cannot know light until you touch the darkness.
- Hope is never mere, even when it is meager.
