In appreciation of oncology nurses everywhere.
In recognition of National Nurses Week:
Thank you to oncology nurses for:
- staying behind in the room with patients and families after we deliver difficult news,
- not letting us shirk the tough questions,
- professionalism in the most difficult of circumstances,
- being partners in care,
- remembering what size gloves we wear,
- the phrase, “Doctor, I think you meant to order …”,
- making sure we eat,
- triaging phone calls,
- listening,
- telling us what the patient is really worried about but too afraid to ask,
- a calming presence,
- working 12-hour shifts,
- working over-time,
- knowing when to page and when it is ok to hold off at 3:00 AM,
- rapid response teams,
- knowing when it’s time for hospice,
- patient safety,
- reminding us to go home and see our families,
- team safety,
- caring hearts.
“Rather, ten times, die in the surf, heralding the way to a new world, than stand idly on the shore.”
― Florence Nightingale
May 12th is the birthday anniversary of Florence Nightingale and National Nurses Day.
Every day should be oncology nurses appreciation day!
